Between the rising tariffs and the ever-growing list of K-beauty products going viral, I’ve been a little more strategic with my skincare cart lately. Some items are holy grail staples I never want to run out of. Others are trending hard and finally earned a spot on my “try it before it’s backordered” list.

And while I don’t normally advocate for panic-buying, as someone who works in retail, I know what happens when cost increases hit behind the scenes. It’s not just about pricing, it’s also about what retailers choose to stock, how often, and how deep. When margins shrink, shelves get tighter.

So yes, I’m restocking smarter right now while prices are still pre-tariff and before things get murkier.

Why I’m Stocking Up Now

The short version: margins matter, and retailers are already recalculating.

With U.S. tariffs on Korean skincare rising from 10% → 25% → now settling at 15%, retailers are stuck in a squeeze. U.S.-based retailers may have stocked up pre-tariff (which is great… for now), but once they reorder, prices will shift or worse, assortment will shrink.

Overseas retailers face a second blow: the $800 de minimis duty-free shipping exemption is ending. Starting August 29, every order from sites like Olive Young, YesStyle, and Stylevana could face new fees, delays, or price hikes.
